Open Source
I spend most of my spare time working in Open Source projects, writing code, docs, helping in mailing lists or IRC, etc. Open Source is all about knowledge sharing and collaboration in its pure form, something I strongly believe makes for a better society.
I have been into Perl for some years. I am a CPAN author, former leader of Barcelona.pm, and teach a Perl semester at the University of Barcelona, which is something vocational I do in my spare time. Back in 2006 I published an article about the intricacies of newlines for O'Reilly's ONLamp.com.
Nowadays I am into Ruby on Rails, a kick-ass web development framework. I have been around Ruby on Rails since 2005. I am a Rails committer, member of the Rails Documentation Team, and the guy behind Rails Contributors. Also honored to have been presented a Ruby Hero Award in RailsConf 2010, held in Baltimore, and to be the president of the Spanish Ruby Users Group, which organised the European Ruby Conference 2009 (EuRuKo 2009), held in Barcelona.
Ruby on Rails Consultancy
I am available for contract work as a Ruby on Rails consultant.
In addition to my personal involvement with Ruby on Rails explained above, I was CTO of the Rails-based company ASPgems for three years. I cofounded ASPgems in June 2006, that gave me experience in lots of Ruby on Rails projects.
My services include:
- Migrations to Rails 3
- Code reviews
- Mentoring
- Refactorings, best practices and idiomatic Rails
- Rescue projects
- Development
- Technical documentation
- …

Live Streaming
I am @fxn at Twitter, and maintain a tech-oriented diary at Advogato since 2001. That diary predates the blogging wave and I keep its original spontaneous, lightweight, casual style.
Reading
Reading is one of my passions. Since I set up this home page I keep a list of books I read.
